Architectural Visualization

I believe that Architecture in both its most elevated & most mundane forms has a role in maintaining the positive uncynical story of a place & people. I adapt my design proposals to local traditions, building methods & narratives, always remembering the building as a set piece in a larger context.

Urban Design

My philosophy of Urban Design is thus; A City should be a distinct Solid, carved by Public Space. I saw in my studies in Italy that the spatial city is naturally a cinematic city; working on the same cues of visual culture that I knew from the Theme Park Industry. My process is therefore one of Carving, not Placing.

Thematic Design

The first & last question I ask in any entertainment project is simply this: “Why is it Fun?” It is a question I learned from mentoring under legendary Imagineers in my time as a Creative Designer in the Theme Park Industry. If a thematic project, even an educational one, cannot answer this question; then the project is not ready.

Plein Air Paintings

I learn from great space by engaging in Plein Air Painting, the act of painting outdoors. These paintings represent not just my practice in painting mediums, but an approach to studying quality urbanism & architecture through a cinematic lens. I also engage in re-interpretation in my studio, painting new scenes from combined memory and desire with various mediums.”

Sketchbooks

As a visual learner, I have organically developed a method of organized visual note-taking, with an emphasis on shorthand writing & sketching. I find that there is a direct connection between the mind & the hand that machines cannot match, and that freehand sketching most fluidly enables that connection.
